Tree and shrub pruning involves the act of cutting way of unwanted or damaged parts of a plant. There are many reasons for pruning. Crown cleaning is the removal of dead, dying, diseased, and/or broken branches from the tree crown. Crown reduction is the method used to reduce the height and/or spread of a tree by making appropriate pruning cuts. Crown restoration is the method of restoring the natural growth habit of a tree that has been topped or damaged in any other way. Crown thinning is the removal of unwanted branches and limbs to provide light and/or air penetration through the tree or to lighten the weight of the remaining branches. Structural pruning helps to establish a strong branch scaffold system with a dominant stem.

Planting and tree relocation can restore or change a landscape to meet the objectives of the client. We have access to a large variety of trees and shrubs through several nurseries. Whether it is a native plant or an exotic plant we select each plant to ensure that it has a well formed crown with an ample root system to sustain itself. Relocating plants can require some specialized equipment. The larger the plant the more risk involved with it’s survival. A candidate for relocation will be assessed to determine it’s success as a transplant. We relocate trees retaining a larger percentage of roots than conventional transplanting methods.

Insect and disease management relies on proper identification of the plant and the proper identification of the pest or disease. We minimize the environment that favors the disorder and in extreme cases we will recommend the use of a pesticide that will be administered by licensed pesticide applicators.

Cabling and support systems can reduce the risk of tree failure. Trees with structural defects such as co-dominant stems can fail and cause personal and/or property damage or they can destroy themselves and other trees. The installation of a support system can minimize that risk by allowing the tree to remain flexible while restricting it’s total movement.

Soil and root zone aeration alleviates soil compaction and improves the soil structure which allows roots to grow into the pore space and create healthier trees. Aeration in conjunction with mulching with composted wood chips puts nutrients directlyinto the root zone and can help roots to absorb more nutrients.

Plant Health Care programs help manage the health, structure, and appearance of the plants in the landscape. The objective of Plant Health Care is to maintain or improve the landscape’s appearance, vitality and—in the case of trees—safety, using the most cost-effective and environmentally sensitive practices and treatments available. Plant Health Care involves monitoring, using preventative treatments, and adopting a strong commitment to working closely with you, the tree owner.
